Kerala is a picturesque state in India. This is one of the most preferred tourist destinations for Indians as well as for foreign tourists. Many people plan their vacation here. Many working professionals take a sabbatical and come here to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. It is also the land of Ayurveda and other traditional forms of healing. It is one of major attractions for the tourists coming here. Kerala is one of the states that practice this medicine with real dedication.
There are many places to see in Kerala. The central towns in Kerala include Thrissur and Palakkad. Palakkad is an ancient town. The district came into existence on January 1st, 1957. The name “palakkad” is derived from “pala” which means a tree called Alstonia scholaris which has sweet scented flowers and “kaadu” which means forest. Together, it means that the place was a forest of Pala trees. It is a land of palm trees and green fields. Geographically, Palakkad is surrounded by hills and is located at the foot of Western Ghats. This makes the weather very pleasant throughout the year. Politically, Palakkad can be divided into a number of Taluks and Assembly constituenties. From the Palakkad map, it can be seen that the assembly constituenties are Thrithala, Pattambi, Ottapalam, Sreekrishnapuram, Mannarkadu, Malampuzha, Palakkad, Chittoor, Kollamcode, Kuzhalmandam and Alathur. Taluks are Ottapalam, Mannarkadu, Palakkad, Chittor, Alathur. The tourist destinations include Tipu Sultan Fort, Malampuzha dam, Jain temple, Wildlife sanctuary at Parambikulam,Siruvani dam, Nelliyampathi, Silent valley national park, Attapadi. There are main rivers that criss-cross palakkad. Some of them are Bharathapuzha, Kannadi, Bhavani, Siruvani and Gayatri. The tourist season is from September to February. The nearest airport is Coimbatore which is about 55 kms from Palakkad. |
