A creeper plant is climbing up and around a cylindrical tree trunk in a helical manner. The tree trunk has a height of 240 inches and a circumference of 32 inches. If the creeper covers a vertical distance of 60 inches in one complete twist around the tree trunk, what is the total length of the creeper?

IIIIIII haaaaaaaa,
Finally i found the Answer... Is this right? Detailed below.... QUOTE Circumference of tree = 32 Virticle distance of Tree = 60 inch If we remove tree Circle Folding... It will be rectangular.. and by pythagora's Therom, Hypotenuse = Root of (square of 32 + square of 60) = 68 Now, the number of twists the creeper makes around the tree trunk is 7.5 (240/32) If the length of the creeper is 68 inches in one twist, The total lengh of Creeper in 7.5 is 510 |

QUOTE Now, the number of twists the creeper makes around the tree trunk is 7.5 (240/32) Why 7.5 twists ?? If the creeper covers 60inches (vertical) in 1 twist and the total height is 240inches (vertical), then the no. of twists should be : 240/60 = 4 so the height should be 4 * 68 = 272inches. |
